Dear readers,
First, as usual, how are you? Hope you're all ok and that you cope with everything you have to do in this last line! :) I know, it can be scary (as it is for me when I see all these to do in a few weeks only...but one you've done it...it's done and you don't have to it anymore, you just relax and think about something else, smiling because you just did it! and nothing matters after all and one academic year just passed by and you just "survived" (rire)! :) ;) which proves that we all can do it...we all can do it, with strengh and courage, as someones would say "yes, we can!":) lol so, good luck everyone and best wishes! :) And now, for relaxing a bit, as the title say, yes, yes, I'm going to talk about books! My favourite...the one, with the writing (of course) and also movies and...tv shows, get me to pass the day, forget a bit about my problem, escape myself, think about something else, trying to guess what's going to happen to the characters?, imagine who they're? , what do they do?, how they're?, what their life has been and is?, trying to understand them...all that during the time I read the book, following their adventures...! books have always (as of course my family and friends) , been here for me, whenever I need them! I know where I can find them! :) I feel empty without them...I've to have them around me, impossible no to be around them...since I know how to read! (smile discreet)
And if you'll see all the books I have, you might have a cardiac arrest(I'm kidding!) :) I don't even know where to put them, but I'm sure there will always be a place for them! can't seem to live without them, anyway! :) ;)
But, Let's go, shall we^^?; And...GO!
This passed few weeks, I've "eaten" and "eaten", books one after another! Never mind that, I like..no I love reading a lot!!!! :) but you already know that! :) So, let's begin!
In the Julia Quinn series, author that I like a lot, so much that I've read, I think, pretty much all her books and will wait impatiently for the next one, and the next one....lol, anyway: here's the books I've read, this past few weeks...or month...?:
1- To Catch an Heiress-Julia Quinn: Caroline Trent, escaping from her evil gardian, who is after her money, is captured by Blake Ravencroft, agent of the crown, who mistakes her for Carlotta de Leon, a spanish spy. She wants to regain control from her fortune, she just has to hide and wait until her 21st birthday. so, it's her opportunity to do so. And, it's also, of course, for this "unstuited" at first couple, an opportunity to fall in love?
2- How to marry a Marquis- Julia Quinn: James Sidwell, Marquis of Riverdale (friend of Blake Ravencroft, this time, we follow his adventure) is called by her aunt Lady Banbury (whom we meet in the Bridgerton's novel!) who is blackmailed.
Elisabeth Hotchkiss, is working for Lady Banbury and needs to marry for the fact that she's not able anbymore to take care of her siblings. And when she thinks she's desperate, in the library she finb a book with the following title: "How to marry a marquis"! Curious, at first, she also thinks it's a joke...but then, she decides that it might be her only chance. And begin to follow the advice. James, also working for lady Banbury, agrees to help her and realize that she has to marry her marquis....let you guess then what's going to happen next...! :)
3- Dancing at Midnight- Julia Quinn: This time, after "Splendid"(if you remember?), we follow the adventure of Arrabella Blydon, cousin of Emma, who is staying with her in the coutryside. She beautiful and intelligent and knows what she wants. when she meets, John Blackwood, neighbour of Emma and her husband Alex, who did the war and saw horrible things, thinking he doesn't deserve to be happy after all the things he as seen. But Arrabella, with a lot of patient and stubborness, will show him that he can love and be happy at the same time....! :)
4-Minx-Julia Quinn: Henrietta Barret has some character, dress like a boy, act like them and work hard to keep her guardian estate as it is after he past away. When, she learns that a new guardian is named, she is determine to scare him away! But nothing goes according to plan.
William Dunford, best friend of Bella (Arrabella Blydon), learns he has interested of an estate for a long distante relation. So, there he goes in the middle of nowhere, to see the estate he has inherited. I again let you guess, what is going to happen next! :)
5- The Secret Diaries of Miranda Cheever- Julia Quinn: Miranda Cheever is not beautiful and doesn't to have anything in a particular at the age of eleven. But Vicount Turner (know as Nigel Bevelstoke, Olivia's brother-we also find her in "What happens in London, where we can follow her own adventure, and in "The then things I love about you", recently read, if you remember?) tells her that she will one day outgrown, and be beautiful and that she should keep a diary, just to be able to look at it and laugh at it after a long time, Miranda believes him and keeps a diay....
Seven years later....Miranda has indeed outgrown and is quite beautiful...
Turner, is now thirty and a bitter widower, not beliving in love...
Miranda would like to be seen other that naive , she has changed and grew up. So? well....read the book to know the rest of the story! :)
6-Everything and the moon-Julia Quinn: This time, we follow the adventure of Victoria Lyndon (sister of Eleanor Lyndon, discover earlier in the year in "Brighter than the Sun") and Robert Kemble. He's surprise to stumble on her, especiallty on her hedgrow maze! Seven years ago, the girl has torn him in two and has let him alone the day they were supposed to elope! He's really mad at her but she's impossible to resist!
For Victoria, her father told her that an earl could'nt possinbly marry a vicar's daugther, and he was right. Robert has promessed her marriage but left her by going to London.
Now, Victoria is a governess, even though she finds hard and doesn't really enjoy it.
Robert offers her a job- as her mistress, but she refuses, she has too much pride and honour for that. Nonetheless, Robert is determine to make her his....:)
It was of course all a misunderstanding....Robert was convinced she wanted to get married for her money, after his fathet told him that stupid lies and Victoria's father told her daughter he couldn't marry her and the night she wanted to elope he tied her up in the bed! Well..well, if you want to know the rest, again, buy and read the book, you won't regret it!
* I think it's pretty much all the books she has written (which is quite good already!) until now and can't wait to read her next book "Just like heaven", get out in May or June! :) And all her books are great, fun and refreshing, transporte in another world, wanted to know the end, unable to stop reading them! So, don't waste a minute and just read them! :)
Then, in the Sophie Kinsella novel and Madeleine Wickam (her real name) series: she's indeed mostly know under the name Sohpie Kinsella and her Shopholic's books (which I strongly recommend) but has also written a few books under the name of Madeleine Wickam, her real name. :) Anyway, let's begin by Sophie Kinsella and her book: " Can you keep a secret?"! Fun book and you definively can't stop reading it...no really! Everybody has secret and it's a know fact and you don't have to tell them, it's your secret, your private garden...right?
Well, Emma has some secrets and never told her family, close friends or even boyfriend, them...so far nothing really bad...well one day, Emma is on a plane, and out of fear, (she doesn't like flying but had to for business reasons..), spill them out to a stranger, sitting beside her...at least she thinks he's a stranger! :)
Now in the Madeleine Wickam's novels: "The Gatecrasher"! Flora picks up guy during funeral, at the beginning a random thing, she continues to do it. One day, she goes to Richard's wife funeral in order to steal his money and dissapear. But nothing goes according to plan and she discovers that she's not the only one after his money!! More serious than the previous one, you cant still have some good laugh and the humour is still present, even though sometimes you want to "assomer" some of the characters. But I suppose she does it on purpose or it wouldn't be fun otherwise! :p
And are you still with me...? I hope so, because, there are still some books (I hope, I won't miss one...or I might add them if it the case!) :) so, let's continue, shall we?
After many books as "Wedding seasons", " Thyme out", "the Rose revived", Wilds designs", Highland Fling", "Stately Pursuits", "Living dangerously", , " Love Letters"( which I recenlty re-read with pleasure! you still want to know the end!) , "A Pefect Proposal" and others.., She has edited a new book and it's really good as usual, she knows how to write and make you dream and laugh at the same time, I didn't know her before, but I'm really glad to have discovered her: it's of course Katie Fforde and "Summer of Love": in this new adventure Sian Bishop, single mother of a five years old boy, move into the countryside, on the advice of her friend Richard. She makes rapidly some good friends and integrate herself with her son...
One day, an adventurer, Angus or Gus (as you prefer) comes back...he is writing a book. Her mother, Fiona, is her mother and lives not too far away from Sian and they became good friends!
But Gus and Sian have met before and there still some things between them....so...so...! read the book to discover their stories! :)
Now, in the more...er...the more....or in a different genre..., that's better, so, where was I? (Sorry in advance for the mispelling or the shorter resume along my writing , but my eyes are closing themselves and it's getting a bit late....!) :p anyway, this time I turned myself towards...thriller and investigation...well, let me tell you something...you have to be really prepared! Not a joke! lol when you begin this kind of book, you are not able to...STOP! Impossible! Especially when it turned be a good author who has written a magnificent piece of writing! Leading you, transporting you everywhere it's possible! And you want to know what happens next! page after page! :p and really want to caught the bad guy(s), who is sometimes or most of the time...crazy! you don't know what can happen with them...! you've to be careful and hoping that the good cup catches him before he does hurt more people! :)
So, in this genre: I've recently read the following books, by two famous different authors:
1- James Patterson and his hero, after Alex Cross (really good too):) , meet Michael Bennett and his ten...(no you're not dreaming!) adopted children! But don't worry he's not alone and his children are always here to help him and knows sometimes he has his work to do! Plus, Seamus Bennett, his grandfather, and priest is supporting him with the help of their super and very patient nanny, Mary Catherine! :)
But let's begin by the first one, (there is today 4 books and I've read 3 of them...!) :
- Step on the crack: Introducing Michael Bennet, Irish cop, and his ten adopted children with his wife Maeve, in NYC and , who unfortunaltely lost the battle against the fucking cancer. In addition to that, some crazy men, decided to take over St Patrick Cathedral full of important hostages during the first lady's funeral. He battles as much as he can to cope and keep his family together between the negociations and the visit at the hospital. And the arrival of Mary Catherine, the nanny who came to help them. :)
- Run for your life-James Patterson: Michael Bennett is back still with his ten children. This time a crazy man, naming himself "the teatcher", saying, is going to teach a lesson...takes over the city and terrorize the population...but mal lui en prend, he doesn't know that Michael Bennett is going to kick is ass! And teach him the fact that we don't touch at this beloved city!
You can't stop reading it!
- Worse case-James Patterson: This time, Michael Bennett get up on a serious case. A man has decided to kidnapp kid's whose parents are rich. He's really fed up on how the world has turned to and wants to bring the attention on how the planet has changed and the environnement problems....well, with the help of an FBI agent Emily Parker, from Virginia, specialist on that kind of kidnapping...we can see them on his track, trying as much as they can and as fast as they can to arrest him...
2- David Baddalcci and in his famous characters (you better want to have them on your side!^^) Sean King and Michelle Maxwell.
- First book, read "Split second": quick resume, a few years back, Sean King was a Secret Service agent and good one. But one day he made a mistake, just a simple mistake, when during a election campaing, he hears a noise and turn his head. It will cost his careeer and after that Sean become a lawyer.
Today, Michelle Maxell, is also a Secret Service agent but after letting her protectee being kidnapped under her nose, her career is compromised. There is some similaritude between the two cases, even though they didn't seem to be some. In between, Joan Dillinger, a ex-lover of Sean King come to search his help...but there seems to be more behind all that! Hum...well, if you want to know the rest...you know again what you have to do! ^^ Enjoy!
Now, still with David Baddalcci and his heroes Sean King and Michelle Maxell: you can this time follow them in a new adventure: "Hours Games": Sean and Michell are now working together and have built an affair. And they've now time to lose! Why? Because between an investigation a "loss of secret documents in a robbery at the residence of the inceredibly wealthy Battle family, which seems like a staightfoward of domestic burglary but soon they begin to suspect links larger, more terryfing events shaking the properous town of Williamsburg to its very core...."
Bodies from different people are found around: " an attractive young woman turns up in the woods, two high school kids, one shot in the back, the other one in the face, are found dead in their car, a successful lawyer is discovered stabbed to death in her hoome. A killer is the loose. The mureder kills in the manner of famous killers of the past but takes care to leave a watch on the scene. Why?"
So as you see, our heroes doesn't time to lose! No even one minute of they want to find the one who does all those killings and to uncover the secret of the famous Battle family! And again, you can't stop reading it, as the page turn themlseves one after another! Impossible! :)
You want to know what's going to happen! :) ;) Which is great, don't you think?
- Simple Genius-David Badalcci: Here, "Sean King and Michelle Maxelle are both haunted by their last cases...
Reluctantly undergoing therapy, Michelle underneaths disturbing secret from the hospital...
While, " Sean accepts a much needed job. A physicist has died under mysterious circumstances near Babbage Town, a secret research centre full of eccentric scientists and cryptocraphers. Meanwhile, the dead's man young daughter, piano-playing prodigy Viggie, has secrets on her own. But what's the significance of the phrase "codes and blood"?
Directly accross the York River from Babbage Town lies the sinister CIA training ground, Camp Peary, where the physicist's body was found. With both the FBI and the CIA breathing down Sean's neck, can he discover the truth-and in time to save Michelle from herself?"
Horrible...horrible novel...in a good way, I reassure you! ^^
- First Family- David Badalcci: Book I'm still reading but will be finished soon! This time, Sean King and Michelle Maxell have a new investigation: the president's niece has been kidnapped and Jane Cox's president Cox's wife hired them to help the investigation. Sean King knows her nad she ows him one as he helped her and her husband in indelicate situation... (read the book if you want to know more!)
The investigation runs first smoothly as the kidnapper finally makes contact and that Jane Cox hasn't been entirely honest with them...! I let you disover the rest of the investigation! :)
Well, to let the thriller genre, now, let's go back to the more fun (not that the other weren't^^) maybe I should've use the words " relax"! Indeed...when you begin a thriller book like them...you have to cling yourself! lol :p
Getting away with it- Julie Cohen: Great book discovered randomly but written simply, giving you the envy to turn the pages one after the other...! The plot? Liz and Lee Haven are twins sisters, very much alike. At least in the physics but different in their life.
Liz is a stunwoman in LA and has quite a successful career. But an accident change her life and she get back to London. As her career won't take off, Lee has taken over the family business: Ice cream Haven in the small village of Stoneguard. They grow up with their mother and her way of life.
One day, Liz comes back to Stoneguard, as Lee has organized a charity event. But once, she arrived they all think Liz is Lee! Indeed, Lee has gone AWOL without saying to anyone!
Liz, at first, wants to say that she's not who they think she is but after decide not to do it as she thinks Lee is more appreciated than her! So, what's next? Chut! Secret! Read the book! :)
A title which has quite arise my curiostiy when I saw the book, see for youself: " A reluctant Cinderella" and not at all what I imagined! Indeed, Samantha Sharp has seen a lot in a life with her brother Liam. She has swore that they won't need anything anymore, she is working hard to stay where she is as an sport agent. A mistake is made and she loses her job. But she doesn't lose hope and begin to continue what does best! A lot of secret about her past and around sport...you want to know who is behind the strong but fragile Samantha...and what's going on....quite enjoyed it! :) A surprise....to read! :)
And....don't fell asleep, lol, I think I've almost finished but there is still a few books to be mentionned or they're going to be jaleous if I don't mentionned them!! ^^
So, in the Ken Follet novel, I ask for one his first novels, A dangerous fortune and the intriguing family The Pilaster's ! Full of secret and revenge....you are tranported in the end of the 19th century....with the banking problem....and many more event..in this saga! Once, you've begin, let's say that you won't be able to stop reading it! :p Guarantee!
Finally, "Acting up" and "Persuading Annie"-Melissa Nathan- Great and funny book that I've read already but wanted to re-read them as I've enjoyed them very much!
The first one is modern version of Pride and Prejudice! Harry Noble a well-know metteur en scene in the theatre world decide to put the famous novel of Jane Austen (oh! I love that author!), on stage! Jasmine "Jazz" , journalist, auditioned and get surprisingly the part of Elizabeth Bennett. It's hate as first sight....and let you guess the rest! :) you won't regret it!
The second one, is based on Persuasion, a modern version of the book written by Jane Austen.
Meet Annie. At eighteen she thinks she is pregnant and plan to elope with the father Jake Mead. But nothing goes according to plan and after a misunderstanding, seven years after..., they path comes across and Jake Mead compagny's seems to be the only one to save her father's company...and there still some unfinished between them....and a lot to resolve! :) Funny book too and you want to know the end...you can imagine youself in it! :) Not a moment to lose! Both books are great and if you want to read more of the author: run and discover "The Waitress" or again "The Learning Curve" (read them and you still have some fun and good writing) and "The Nanny" (didn't read it yet...).
So, here is the end of this new bookholic chapter! Enjoy and see you for the next one! Take care and see you later! :) xxx
