Sea: by Mamaille

When I see the sea

My senses are open

I can smell the sweet perfume

A mixture of salt, iodine, and algae

Hearing the noises of the waves

Going back and forth

Like a murmur

The page of a book we turn

Or a the rustling of a paper leaf

I see the seagulls sweeping

Across a low white sky

I have the invigorating wind into my face

Caressing my cheek

And feeling pebbles under my feet

As a carpet of pearl

I feel safe and calm

I’m clearing my mind

Knowing that my family is not far away

I feel close to them

As if they were next to me

Every time I look at the sea

Toward the horizon

Wishing to be a seagull

And to be in a flutter with them
